During its visit to the Innu community of Maliotenam on the North Shore last November, the National Inquiry announced that it intended to hold public hearings soon in Montréal. In an interview with Radio-Canada, Commissioner Michèle Audette indicated that this decision had been motivated by Montréal’s greater accessibility from remote regions. Also, some families said they preferred to testify outside their community of origin. In a press release, it was also mentioned that other Canadian cities will be added to the National Inquiry’s itinerary over the next few months. The Commissioners took the opportunity to argue once again for an extension of the mandate, a request that was made formally to the Government of Canada a few weeks ago. The dates when the hearings will be held in Montréal have not been disclosed yet.
